Rock and roll for the common rocker, who doesn't care if it's Tommy Sands, Nervous Norvus or Elvin Pelvin is ubiquitous in this day and age. Then there are the connoisseurs who know the good stuff. the Haze, who I've spent the best years of my life appreciating. Hasil is in my will. "Sex Crazy Baby" and "Do The Hot Pants With Me" will be played at my funeral and "DPA Blues" at the cemetery! If I can get a casket painted with the Hunchin' Shack on top, I'll be Chicken Walkin' through eternity!

When entertaining visitors, play Out to Hunch softly in the background. It will help you quickly identify which of the attendees are your real, true friends. Works every time.

The late, esteemed Mr. Russert seemed to enjoy the music of Bruce Springsteen. I suspect had he been introduced, as I was as a lad, to the joys of "No More Hot Dogs," "Do The Scalp" and the incredible "Peanut Butter Rock 'N Roll" album, he might have had a different idea of who was truly THE BOSS. Bruce is a charming rascal, all right. But only THE HAZE could execute THE HUNCH! Enough said.

Oh, how I wish I'd sent Tim Russert a copy of 'Out to Hunch' when I could. When he was a Buffalo schoolboy I bet he loved listening to Dick Biondi on WKBW. If Mr. Russert liked Chuck Berry, Buddy Holly, Gene Vincent and George Hamilton IV, he would have loved The Haze also. Too late now.

There are composers. And there are COMPOSERS. Our friend Hasil demonstrated the difference from the time of that "Chicken Walk" on Air, all those decades ago, through such dramas in miniature as "Slow Hunch" and "Get Out of the Car." I have long felt he needed recognition, even before his passing as one of America's most magnificent compositional geniuses. "My Blue Star" will surely elucidate the world. We who know, however, have known it all along! Truly Madison's gift to Western Civilization.

Hasil Adkins Karaoke discs would be like manna from Heaven--or road kill from Madison--with a side dish of commodity meat. Singing "She Goes Like This" or "Let's Do What We Done" to authentic one man band accompaniment would be like doin' the Hunch when Gershwin (or Oscar Levant) played "Rhapsody in Blue."

Why doesn't somebody publish a book of Hasil Adkins lyrics? It would be fun to read and really useful for karaoke, too.

I bet you theres lots of material Mr. Adkins recorded that no one knows about and it's my hope that material is found, remastered and released for many years to come. The fertile mind knows no bounds.

I recall vividly traveling through Southern West Virginia at some point in the 60's, and seeing a charismatic young man referred to as both "Elvis" and I think there was a sign referring to him as "Hassle." Obviously a spelling error. In any case, I now know that the young man I saw, roaring, hollering about the "hunch" and singing his own versions of rock favorites was the one and only Haze. What a wonderful thing to know I had the privilege of seeing him in his prime. My regret was I never got to see him in his element in Madison later in life. Ah, no matter. I've got all the CDs, some of the vinyl and my memories. I look forward to "My Blue Star" and hope it's submitted for awards. Kudos and a hearty bravo!

I think Hasil Adkins played at my prom. It was a long time ago, but I remember someone all by himself doing Rocking at the High School Hop and Rocking Robin and a bunch of songs I didn't recognize but they really rocked. I had his autograph but it disappeared years ago.
